YUM!

Was craving for Shanghainese food today, so Daryl and myself immediately flocked to Hu Cui at Ngee Ann City after church.

And guess what we ordered...

First came the Xiao Long Bao - Juicy and absolutely delicious. Then came their signature dish Stewed Pork with Bun - 100% designer, nothing like the normal Kong Bak Pau you eat outside, it looks great and tastes great too! You just have to order that!!

The Stir Fried Beef with Leeks came next - The meat tasted a lil sweet, but generally it's a normal dish. Fourth came the Siew Mai - Defnitely one of the better siew mais around town!

We had the Flaky Pastry with Pork Fillings after that - The pastry was good, but the filling wasn't anything to boast about. Our sixth dish was the Pan Fried Pork Dumplings - It wasn't so nice cos i thought the skin was too thick.

You can imagine how full we were when we finished all those food when we still had to stomach the next dish Dried Noodles With Three Kinds of Meat - Tasted something like Hong Kong Noodles, except it was cooked with chicken, ham and bacon, which made the dish a lil salty.

I initially wanted to order the Stir Fried Shanghainese Rice Cakes (aka Shanghai Nian Gao), but Daryl doesn't fancy eating them. The last time we went there, i tried the ones that were stir fried with ham and it was delicious! Tastes something like the Japanese Mochi which is added to udons or soups, or think of it as our Muah Chee which is hardened in cake form ala the Chinese New Year Nian Gao, yet still soft to the bite.

A meal cannot be complete without dessert! So we had the same dessert we had the last time Deep Fried Banana Fritters with Honey - Sounds normal? It's anything but.

After the bananas are deep fried in a thick batter (imagine it looking like authentic European Fish & Chips), they are brought to YOUR TABLE after bringing a big bowl of ice water. Now, just as you are about to ask why, Daryl and myself were just as puzzled too because they didn't do it the last time. To our horror, the waitress used two spoons to tong the fritters into the bowl of ice water!

GASP!

Just as fast as she did that, she took used the same two spoons to tong the fritters out of the water again two seconds later. And there we have it, our dish of Deep Fried Banana Fritters with Hardened Honey! Suddenly, i realised that it was just the same as what i had eaten the last time. She did that step so that the honey would harden and it would have a crunch when we bit into it. Simply delicious and absolutely TO DIE FOR!

Total cost: $85
